Troubleshooting the Blue Screen of Death (BSOD)
The Blue Screen of Death (BSOD) can be alarming, but many common issues can be resolved with some simple troubleshooting steps. Here’s a user-friendly guide to help you investigate and potentially fix BSOD errors.
1. Note the Error Message
- When you encounter a BSOD, take a photo or write down the error code and message (e.g.,
CRITICAL_PROCESS_DIED
). This information can help diagnose the issue later.

2. Restart Your Computer
- In many cases, simply restarting your computer can resolve temporary issues. After rebooting, see if the BSOD occurs again.
3. Check for New Hardware or Software
- If the BSOD started after installing new hardware or software, try removing or uninstalling them. Boot your computer again to see if the problem persists.
4. Boot in Safe Mode
- Safe Mode loads only essential drivers and services, helping you troubleshoot:
- Restart your computer and press
F8
(or Shift + F8
for some systems) before Windows starts loading. - Select Safe Mode from the menu.
- If the BSOD does not occur in Safe Mode, it may be due to a driver or software issue.
5. Run Windows Update
